Program Overview

  • Adult woman and young boy drawing with colored markers at a white table, with colorful building blocks and a white container nearby, in a cozy living room.

    What is The Balance Program?

A coaching model where clinicians support caregivers to reduce challenging behaviour by teaching effective communication skills, tolerance for necessary adult led instructions and routines, and increased cooperation through short, joyful practice.

  • Children playing with colorful wooden building blocks on a blue table.

    Who is it for?

Families seeking to reduce challenging behaviour and increase independence, connection, and confidence at home and in the community.

  • A young boy sitting at a school desk, smiling and talking while a woman sitting on the floor in front of him, also smiling and gesturing with her hands, engaging in a playful or educational activity.

    What happens each week?

Caregiver and child attend 1–2 coached sessions; at home, families complete 10–20 minutes of daily practice. Delivery can be in-person, remote, or hybrid.

THE TACT APPROACH

Structured, Joyful Learning

Coaching and practice feel doable and upbeat—so families want to keep going.

Family-Embedded

We design routines that fit your day, not the other way around, and we coach you to lead.

Data-Informed, Person-Centred

Goals are individualized; we track progress and adjust supports in real time.

Generalization First

We practise across people, places, and activities so skills show up where they matter most.

Assent-Based, Compassionate Practice

We prioritize student assent and well-being by using least-intrusive, trauma-informed approaches that keep learning respectful and motivating.
